The first thing that resembles a modern day rubik's cube was invented on April 11, 1972 by Larry D. Nichols
The Rubik's cube was released in the year 1974 under the initial name of Magic Cube
Later than same year, the rubik's four by four and five by five were also released to appease the heavy demmand for more puzzles from Erno
The magic cube was renamed Rubik's Cube by Erno in 1980
1981-A quartet called the Barron Knights made a song about a man trying to solve the cube and eventually going mad, even dying
The book You Can Do the Cube was a guide on solving the cube written by Patrick Bossert and published on September 24,1981, which later went on to sell 1.5million copies
Rubik's Cube was granted an entry in the 1982 Oxford English Dictionary
The television show Rubik the Amazing Cube aired on September 10, 1983 on ABC
The Rubik's Clock was put on the market in 1988
The World Cubing Association was founded in 2003 and is still around to judge every competition around the world and regulating everything
V Cube was launched in 2008, who went on to be the first to produce cubes larger than five by five for the world to use
In July 2010 a computer calculated that a Rubik's cube is always at most 20 moves away from being returned to its solved position
The World Record was broken on December 2, 2017 by Grégoire Pfennig for the world's largest layered cube, beating the previous record of 22x22x22
